The State of the Ummah in Times of Trials - by Imam Hatem Saad

First Khutbah
Summary of today's Khutbah

The Muslim Ummah today is facing a period of division, conflict, and widespread trials. However, this condition is not new — it was foretold in the Qur’an and by the Prophet ﷺ.

Allah reminds us:

﴿وَإِن طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا﴾

“If two groups of believers fight, make peace between them.” (49:9)

This shows that division can occur, but the solution is always reconciliation and justice.

Historically, internal conflict began early in Islamic history and continued through different phases of leadership, from Khilāfah to kingship and beyond. In modern times, the fall of unified Muslim leadership and the division of lands have deepened disunity and weakness.

The Prophet ﷺ warned:

«لا يأتي عليكم زمان إلا الذي بعده شر منه»

“No time will come except that the next is worse.”

Today’s reality reflects these warnings: confusion, internal conflict, and loss of direction.

However, Islam does not leave us without guidance. The solution lies in:

  • Returning sincerely to Allah
  • Strengthening our understanding of the Qur’an and Sunnah
  • Avoiding division and اختلاف
  • Building unity upon truth
  • Developing strength in knowledge, education, and community

It is important to believe in the signs of the Last Day, but without hastily applying them to current events without clear evidence.

The Ummah is not lost — but it must rise through faith, knowledge, unity, and preparation.

﴿إِن تَنصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ﴾

“If you support Allah, He will support you.”
