Amma ba‘d:
Part One: The Prophet’s ﷺ Lifelong Mission with the Qur’ān
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam,
Allāh sent our beloved Prophet ﷺ not with wealth, armies, or worldly power — but with a Book that illuminated hearts and transformed the entire world.
“It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and the Wisdom — although they had been in clear misguidance before.” (Surah al-Jumu‘ah 62:2)
The Prophet ﷺ spent twenty-three years tirelessly teaching the Qur’ān. He taught in the marketplaces, in the homes, under the shade of trees, and in the Masjid. His life revolved around teaching, living, and embodying the Qur’ān.
‘Ā’ishah رضي الله عنها said:
كَانَ خُلُقُهُ الْقُرْآنَ
“His character was the Qur’ān.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
This means he was a walking Qur’ān — showing the world what the Qur’ān looks like in action.
Part Two: The Ṣaḥābah — Leaders Who Became Teachers of the Qur’ān
Dear brothers and sisters,
After the Prophet ﷺ, the noble Companions carried this light with passion and sincerity. They were not merely rulers or warriors — they were teachers of the Qur’ān even while leading empires.
Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq رضي الله عنه was the Caliph but would spend his nights reciting and teaching the Qur’ān.
‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه, despite leading the largest Muslim empire, sat in circles teaching people tafsīr of the Qur’ān.
‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān رضي الله عنه is the one who gathered the Ummah on one Muṣḥaf, preserving the Qur’ān for all generations to come.
‘Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه established circles of Qur’ān and knowledge even during the most turbulent political times.
These were leaders of nations, yet they saw teaching the Qur’ān as their first and greatest duty.
“You are the best nation produced for mankind. You enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and believe in Allah.” (Āl-‘Imrān 3:110)
And after them, their students — the Tābi‘īn and scholars of the Ummah — dedicated their lives to spreading the Qur’ān across continents, from the deserts of Arabia to the mountains of Central Asia, from Africa to Spain, from India to the Malay world.
They established ḥalaqāt al-Qur’ān (circles of Qur’ān) in every masjid, school, and home. These circles were not just about memorising words — they were breeding grounds of faith, unity, and brotherhood.
Part Three: The Qur’ān Unites All Cultures and Hearts
Brothers and sisters,
The Qur’ān came not to one race, one language, or one culture — it came to all of humanity.
“We have not sent you except to all mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner.” (Saba’ 34:28)
And Allāh says:
“Indeed the believers are but brothers.” (al-Ḥujurāt 49:10)
Here in Australia, we are blessed with a vibrant community — Arabs, Pakistanis, Turks, Malays, Africans, Europeans, reverts — different colours, languages, and madhāhib. What can unite us? It is not culture, not ethnicity, not school of thought — it is the Qur’ān.
When the Qur’ān becomes our reference and compass, then:
- Our hearts will unite on truth.
- Our youth will grow proud of their faith.
- Our mosques will become centres of light, mercy, and knowledge.
- Our differences will turn into strength not division.
“Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not be divided.” (Āl-‘Imrān 3:103)
This “rope of Allah” is the Qur’ān. It is what will bind us together firmly as one family despite our differences.
Part Four: Why Supporting the Qur’ān Competition Is a Legacy of the Prophets
Brothers and sisters,
Every time a child recites the Qur’ān beautifully, a heart shines. Every time a young man or woman memorises a sūrah, an ummah is revived. Every time a competition motivates children to love the Book of Allah — it is a revival of the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best of you are those who learn the Qur’ān and teach it.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)
Supporting this Qur’ān competition means:
- You are continuing the mission of the Prophet ﷺ.
- You are walking in the footsteps of the Companions.
- You are preserving the future of Islam in Australia.
- You are building unity across all cultures and backgrounds.
Imagine, dear brothers and sisters — every verse they memorise, every tajwīd they master, every heart they inspire… you share in the reward.
“Who is it that will lend Allah a goodly loan, so He may multiply it for him many times over.” (al-Baqarah 2:245)
Your donation, your effort, your time — is a loan to Allah, and Allāh Himself promises to multiply it many times over.
Part Five: Practical Ways Our Community Can Support
Let us transform this competition into a beacon of Qur’ān in Australia. Here is how each one of us can contribute:
- Sponsor a student: Cover the fees or prizes for one child or group.
- Volunteer your skills: Event organisation, marketing, photography, judging, hosting.
- Spread the word: Share the event in your networks, schools, masājid, and social media.
- Make du‘ā’: Ask Allāh to place barakah in this competition and make it a cause of unity and guidance.
- Build endowment (waqf): Establish a long-term fund to support future Qur’ān activities.
Even if you cannot give much — give something. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Protect yourselves from the Fire even with half a date.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Muslim)
Part Six: A Vision for Our Masjid and Ummah
Imagine, dear brothers and sisters, if our masjid became known as:
“The House of the Qur’ān” in Australia.
A place where children love to come and recite.
Where youth grow with the Book of Allāh in their hearts.
Where different cultures pray shoulder to shoulder, united by the same words of Allāh.
This is how the early generations built the Ummah. Not by wealth. Not by numbers. But by hearts illuminated by the Qur’ān.
“There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book by which Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to paths of peace.” (al-Mā’idah 5:15–16)
Let us choose to be that generation of light.
Khātimah (Conclusion and Final Advice)
My beloved brothers and sisters,
We stand today on the shoulders of giants — the Prophet ﷺ, the Companions, the Tābi‘īn, the great imāms, the scholars, and the teachers — all who lived and died carrying the Qur’ān.
It is now our turn.
Let us make this Qur’ān competition a revival of their legacy.Let us unite all cultures, madhāhib, and communities under the banner of the Qur’ān.Let us invest in the Qur’ān — for this is the most secure investment for our children, our community, and our Hereafter.
