The People of the Sabbath – Aṣḥāb al-Sabbt- by Imam Hatem Saad

First Khutbah - 1:15 PM
Summary of today's Khutbah

This khutbah highlights the Qur’anic story of Aṣḥāb al-Sabbt (the People of the Sabbath) as a timeless warning against trying to bypass Allah’s commands through trickery and loopholes. Allah tested a community from Banī Isrā’īl by forbidding fishing on Saturday, yet many set traps in advance to claim they had not “fished” on the Sabbath—so Allah punished the transgressors severely and saved those who forbade evil.

The khutbah emphasizes key lessons: true faith means honest obedience, not manipulating religion to justify what Allah has forbidden or to escape obligations; enjoining good and forbidding evil is a duty, even when results seem unlikely; and deception in worship and law eventually leads to broken trust and corruption in society. The message calls the believers to taqwā, sincerity, and submission to revelation, and to avoid the path of those who knowingly played with Allah’s limits.
