Following the tragic incident in Bondi beach, Sydney, last Sunday the 14 Dec 2025, the Executive Members of the Canberra Muslim Community convened a formal meeting on 18 Dec 2025 at the Gungahlin Mosque with two officers from the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
During the meeting, the Executive Committee expressed their profound sorrow and extended sincere condolences to all Australians affected by this tragic event. The Committee emphasised the importance of unity, social cohesion, and shared responsibility in rejecting and opposing all forms of violence and unlawful behaviour within society.
The AFP officers advised that members of the Muslim community should remain vigilant and promptly report any concerns or suspicious activities by contacting the Australian Federal Police via the emergency number 000. The officers reaffirmed that ensuring the safety and security of the Muslim community is a core part of the AFP’s professional responsibilities.
CMC requested to AFP to increase the Patrol in the mosque area specially:
- During Jummah time
- In the evening and night
- Also, early morning during the Fajr prayer.
AFP committed that they will increase the Police visibility in the mosque area as much as possible and practical.
It was further highlighted that mosques are sacred places of worship and must be protected from any form of harm or unlawful activity. The AFP confirmed their commitment to delivering information and awareness sessions for members of the Muslim community.
The Executive Committee reaffirmed its commitment to working closely and cooperatively with the AFP to promote community safety, security, and overall wellbeing.
